Fungus
Carole, Sure there’s a possibility that they CAN get a fungus by not drying out regularly but it doesn’t mean that they WILL. Most likely, yours are still adapting to their environment and to you. A brief period without basking will not cause fungus unless water conditions are ripe for fungus growth, i.e. dirty water, uneaten food at the bottom, etc. Salt greatly reduces the chances of fungus, as does a light preventative dose of acriflavin. Most terps sleep in the water, butI have had some of mine sleep on their basking site at different times for no apparent reason. My inclination is that they just doze off while basking and never bothered to dive back into the water! -Chun
