When I first got my female DBT, she was covered with rot. Most of her scutes had been infiltrated by rot. She was purchased at the chinese market. At first I did not want to use marine salt because of cost. But my battle with the rot was very long and one day I decided to add marine salt. The shell rot healed almost 3 times as fast when she was in a brackish environment using marine salt. I returned to using pickling salt ( rock salt). But when my female got sick again I returned to marine salt and realize that it woudl cost less to use the marine salt than the rock salt. I was using sooo much rock salt to achieve the same salinity as a small amount of marine salt. Now I only use marine salt. It costs me about 15$ per two months. This is much better also because the marine salt has buffers to keep the PH high and also is full of helpfull minerals and calcium. Julie Jonathan Helms wrote:
