As for coloration of pileata, it can be as variable as macrospilota. The specimen in Mara’s book is pretty unique from what I have seen. The pict in Mount’s “Reptiles and Amphibians of AL” is a pretty average specimen. The only traits I have seen that follow pileata are dark rear legs, a strong keel frequently with knobs, and thick or heavily pigmented skin (gray, black, blueish, and white). I have not seen the texans in the wild but was under the impression they had lighter plastrons with more gray or green. bbm — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, “Chun-Ming Chew”
