I start my babies (all kinds of aquatic turtles) inside for the first year and then move most of them out, year-round. I find that they need long acclimation in preparation for winter. I have set turtles out at the end of summer and lost them during the winter. But turtles that have been out most of the summer rarely die. I have had trouble with oxygen depletion (have even lost redears) in my ponds, so now I bubble air in the water thru the winter.
