I have the exact same problems as you guys with my 404. It takes me forever to get the stupid thing started. I still havn’t figured out the trick. It seems to start a little easier if I fill my tank to the top, lift the filter above the tank till it starts (eventually), then drain the tank down to an appropriate level. You could also start sucking water out of the other tube, but you might get a mouthfull of turtle crud. Vincent
