Rick uses the bulbs for raising the babies. They only go outdoors to his ponds when they’re juveniles or young adults. My own experience is based on strictly indoor tank set ups for hatchlings through adults with no outdoor sun exposure. Jonathan reported using real sun exposure 2 or 3 time per week which I would agree is great if practical and possible. I re-read the UVheat web site. They argue that no flourescent bulb gives off enough UVB to make a difference, not even Reptisun 5.0s or 7.0s. That would explain why we are not seeing any difference in using the GE bulbs compared to the Reptisuns. But it also continues the debate as to what light qualities are essential for turtles. The UVheat testimonials are mostly about lizards. I did learn that they do, in fact, specify the 100W bulb for 10 gallon tanks with the riser in use! Todd in Texas
