Carole, I know if Florida the terrapins do tend to hang out on mangrove roots. So I imagine they don’t get a whole lot of direct sun. Since mine don’t have mangrove roots to bask on, they have to settle for my wooden ramps and artificial sun. They do spend several hours a day basking. Some of them will move into the shade.
