Matt: If I am not mistaken you are not allowed to keep any Turtles of any kind for a pet in NJ. You would have to check to see if the terrapin is specifically protected where you are. You might be able to keep the turtles as a long-term “science project” for your kids. You could study their growth rates and “Social interactions”. This could take a few years. Not all science projects must be boring and tedious. Keep the bucket out of the afternoon heat, conceal it from raccoons and other animals, and try not to let them get bone dry nor wet.
