Sounds like you are on the right track. follow what chun said. And go ahead and try to get some close up pictures of the smooth white areas and the infected areas for us to use as a guide to show others. I f the fungus spread into the bone tissue and what looks like “dry bone” is visible then you will need to clean aroound this area well and the dry bone will eventually be shed and regenerated. when it gets loose, gently pry it out and then you can clean the area again.
