What should the ambient air temp. be during the day and night? My DBT is out of the water more than half the day under the tree. Could this mean he doesn’t like fresh water? Maybe he feels more secure out of the water becasue I’m keeping him with other turtles? He quickly jumps in the water when he thinks I’m going to start feeding or when he wants to see what I’m doing(cleaning, filter change, etc.), he is VERY curious!

Ben, I don’t know that there is an ideal ambient temperature for diamondbacks. If there is, the range would be quite wide. I would assume that temperatures between 65F-85F would be comfortable for them. In the wild, dbs remain active until the mid Fall season and southern ones are active throughout the year. Maybe MW could enlighten us on this a little bit more. Most of my dbs love to bask and spend half the day out of the water also. I believe this is a natural response for dbs and not necessarily an aversion to water conditions. Again, I doubt that he is intimidated by the other turtles – usually it’s the other way around! Isn’t that just one of the most endearing traits to dbs – their curiosity?! – Chun

Thank You…I didn’t know if that was normal behavior for DBT. DBT are the funniest turtles I have ever seen! Thanks Agian BC
