I am going to add a basking area to my 55 gallon tank with some plexi- glass I bought. Is there a special type of calking to use? I read at a DIY site, that Silicone is the stuff to use, but I want to double check. Thanks, Eric
You need to find a calk that specifies Lexan or acrylic. Silicone willnot stick to the plexiglass well or for any length of time. BBM

Long before I even had any turtles in my tank, I had silliconed the slab to the sides of the tank. But a few weeks before I got my three, the sillicone gave out. Sillicone doesn't seem to work very well on plexiglass for whatever reason. Also, Plexiglass can be very slippery. My DBTs used to have an uphill battle to climb up onto it, and sometimes when I would enter the room, they would have a hard time rushing back into the water. It sure does make for quite the spectacle though. They look like little motors running in place with all their might, but not getting anywhere. I have since switched to wood, and they have less problems.
