I worked for a great pet store about 10 years ago. It went out of business about 5 years ago. What a shame. I don’t think it was do to lack of business, but because the owner had some personal bad money spending habits. I learned most of what I know while working in that store. Employees are the key to a good pet store. All it takes is a couple of employees who really care, and it’s amazing how good a pet store can be. (especially if it’s a manager) We have 2 petstores in my area. One is a superpets. The other is a small family owned store. I go to this one to buy my fish. (I keep Africans as well as my Terrapin) The problem I run into is the cost of everything else (like filters)at this family owned store. Since I found Big Al’s on line, I’ve discovered that the local store is about twice as expensive. This is upsetting. I would rather give my money to a local store, but it’s hard to spend double. I sure can buy a lot more on line for the same price! I’ve since started pricing everything, and if it’s only a couple bucks more, I still buy it at the local store. But that doesn’t happen too often. They have the aquaclear 300 for $43…compared to $18 at Big Al’s. And of course, the local stores don’t carry turtles, let alone DBT’s. I have to go on line or to a show for those guys. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
