Dark color and rings

Hi there, my DBs are growing wicked fast. Too fast I think. The scutes are small and the space between them is very large and dark. Will the scutes ever catch up? I have been limiting the food intake a bit more lately to try and slow it a little. But they are very dark right now. I just wonder if that is the way they will always look. Thanks, Carole
