I received 2 northern juveniles back in Jan. One is about an inch or so bigger than the other. They are both males and are housed in a 55 gal tall tank with a basking spot. They are also from the same clutch I believe. Lately the bigger one (Ozzy) has been biting the smaller (Sid), constantly following him around and harrassing him. My little guy swims with his back leg tucked in so it doesn’t get bitten. I took Ozzy out of the tank for an hour for a “time out” and as soon as I put him back in with Sid he tried to bite him again. Sid has started sleeping on the waterfall out of the water because of this. Any idea’s gang? Bill G e-mail: billg34@…

SawilMay 18, 2002 at 2:51 am #17131I think you are screwed! I had/have this same problem. I has two juveniles in a 90 gal. tank. One weekend I went away and came to find one the two with a chewed tail and a bite out of his rear foot. I watched for a while and saw the other one doing the same thing you described. I have tried this aggresive turtle(a female ornate) with several others and she always goes after them. In fact I just tried again yesterday for the first time in about two months and bam! I asked all over and nobody has any advice other than to keep her seperate and that sucks b/c she is beautifally colored and I cannot bare to part with her. If you any suggestions please let me know thanks and good luck! —–Original Message—– From: billg34@… [mailto:billg34@…] Sent: Friday, May 17, 2002 3:58 PM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: [diamondbackterrapins] Turtle Fights I received 2 northern juveniles back in Jan. diamondbackterrapinsMay 18, 2002 at 4:13 am #17132I don’t think this will help but here is my experiance. I had hatched out a little over 60 terrapins last year and I kept them for four to ten months with no problems at all. None of my adult terrapins bite each other and I have three males in one tank. I had two terrapins a couple years ago and after about six months of peace one started biting the other for no reason. I sepreated them but every time I put them together one would start biting again. Finally I got fedup with the little brat and stuck him with all the adults, he was about 3.5 inches at the time. That seemed to solve the problem. But I have heard from other people that they have not been able to stop their terrapins from biting the other terrapins no matter what they do. Good Luck Jonathan
billg34@optonline.netMay 18, 2002 at 9:50 am #17133I think I might punish him and put him in with “Spike” my nasty musk turtle. Now that would teach him a lesson! Otherwise he’s going into a 29 gallon tank alone. Bill G e-mail: billg34@…
