Black lights?

Hi Everyone! I have a question that I’m hoping someone can help clarify. Is the use of a black light bulb harmful to your turtles? I have used them for a heat source but it seems that I read somewhere that black lights give off extreme amounts of UVB – does anyone know anything about this? I have used the night glo ones but as many of you know – the filaments in these bulbs are very fragile. The black light bulbs may not burn as many hours but at $.99 – $1.50 you really can’t beat the price! Especially if you bump it and the filament breaks in it – ouch at $8.00!! Thanks for any comments on this subject. Sharon

Hi Sharon, I have heard that black lights are bad for turtle’s eyes. I don’t remember where I read. Jonathan http://www.geocities.com/diamondbackterrapins _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

Thanks Jonathan! I think it’s best if I don’t use them anymore – it’s not worth the chance of hurting my turtles for a few buck savings!! I just need to be more careful when handling the expensive bulbs. I like the bulbs sometimes better because you can see that they are on – unlike a ceramic heater which can give a serious burn by not realizing that it’s on. Not that a bulb can’t do the same damage – it’s just the little amount of light you see makes you remember. Thanks – Have a great day/evening! Sharon Jonathan Helms wrote:
