    Hi there, I just got my first terrapin and I was wondering if my set up that I have my Map turtles in would be good for the terrapin as well. It’s a 40 gallon rubbermaid tub that we turned into a pond with a whisper carbon filter at one end and a powerhead at the other. The basking area is a large chunk of cypress drift wood and i rigged a uv light strip near the top, and the heat lamp right over the log. The water seems to stay very clean but I still change it about once a week. My map turles have done very well in this set up, so how should the terrapin do?

    If your new diamondback is a captive bred diamondback in freshwater you can do fine in freshwater. I know of people who have gradually moved them from brackish water over to freshwater completely (but not all at once). The DBT natural habitat is brackish water but if captive bred in freshwater they will be fine. Mine are in freshwater and my youngest one is in a large tank with 2 other Red Ear Sliders of the same size. All is good there. -= Chris C.
