Hello Everyone! I have a question that I’m hoping someone out there can answer. Have any of you used the “GALVANIZED STEEL” horse water troughs for FRESH WATER turtles?? I use the heavy black ones as ponds but the steel ones go so much larger. The black “Tuff Tubs” or “Rubbermaid” only go up to 160 gallons. I have a wonderful design that I would love to use the 8 foot round steel tub but am afraid as to whether or not it is safe?? I was told by the farm supply company that he wanted to put Koi in one but said he was told it would kill the fish. Anyone have experience in this area I would love to hear from you. I know the other choice is to use a rubber pond liner but there we are adding another cost and to get it to lay in smoothly would really be a chore I think. Thank you! Sharon

I have kept a yearling Alligator in a ten foot long stock tank/water trough since Septemeber, and he’s been doing fine. And recently, I’ve moved my Water Monitor over to one too. And aside from a brief scare with the heating needing to be increased due to the size of the enclosure, he’s doing fine now as well. I have never used one of these with turtles, but plan to move my Alligator Snapper into one when it outgrows it’s conventional enclosures. As far as I know, there’s no reason why it would harm any animals kept inside. Maybe it wouldn’t be very good for Koi due to space reason, as they can become very large fish.
