Julie Regarding the tags, the ones I use are not the micro-chip or passive types. My tags are used mainly in salmon and fin-fish management, made by one company, and are detected only by specialized reader. However, I got the idea to use them from the sea turtle research in Galveston. As far as I know we were the first to use these tags in terrapins. The tag company Northwest Marine Tech loaned the equipment to our effort. Other terrapin studies are now using them in their work, but you cannot detect the individual, only the cohort of tagged animals. Unfortunately there is no coordination among studies. Thanks for all you do. I also maintain photographs of plastrons and carapace which I might be able to match up, but not very reliable.
Ill try to get some good plastral and carapace pics for you. I was also wonering. What kind of service do you offer to volunteers? I woudl love to come spend a week with you guys. Julie Terrapin Station at USNA/GP wrote:
