Re: where hatchlings go

This has been a topic on a few brief occasions. They stay just above or at high tide line. They don’t wander far from the nesting area. The upstream thoery appears to be only specific to a few populations or just something someone pulled out of their cloaca because it sounded good. i have seen numerous juveniles up to about oneor two years old. They stay buried in the seaweed or tidal wrack. They don’t retreat to the water until they are about three inches and it is a gradual thing. A hatchling may not get to the tide line but a yearling or second year terp might stay in the thickest grass and sea weed in the upper tidal zone, but rarely have I seen them in more than a couple inches of water. -Scott
