I have induced various turtles with oxytocin. Mader lists the dose in mg/kg. I have also seen turtles so egg bound that they cannot pass eggs. frequently these are infertile to start with. In some cases the turtles had surgery. The posterior end of the plastron was opened to remove the bound eggs only after the oxytocin did not work. This would be a last resort. I have seen gravid females where the eggs were visible but never like Lisa’s. I do this fairly often as I have no yard and sometimes they don’t want to lay in their little land area. I put them in a large 40 gallon tub (no water) with some towels in the bottom. Some will act like they are digging a hole and start laying and others will just walk around and drop eggs. Usually I put my hand under their tail and I catch the eggs. I would definately try inducing if you are sure she is egg bound because sometimes when you let nature take it’s course you end up with a dead turtle. It is hard to say let nature take it’s course when the turtle is not in a natural setting. If she was she would have laid her eggs. I think Jonathan had a female once that would not lay because she didn’t like the laying area he had for her so he kept taking her to the park and I think eventually after a few trips she finally laid her eggs. She did alot of walking before she finally found that “perfect” spot. I also received a female from Scott once that was graivid and she held her eggs over the winter.
