Last summer, the __-mile-long silt fence (the “Great Wall”) built by Dr. Wood’s students along a busy road stopped a huge number of terrapins from crossing that road during nesting season and getting run over by cars and trucks. THE NUMBER OF TURTLES KILLED ON THE ROAD IN THE SUMMER OF 2004 WAS JUST 1/3 OF THOSE KILLED THE PREVIOUS YEAR! AND THIS YEAR THEY WANT TO EXTEND THE LENGTH OF THE FENCE.
