Hello to all!….. A friend of mine has a yellow bellied slider and a red eared ( I know we are a DB group…. but I gotta ask anyway) She called me up yesterday freekin out because her turtles which are about 2inches long each ( very small babies) both have these big blotchy kinda brownish samon colored spots on the underside of the shell ( the belly area I guess in non scientific terms!) She says the blotchy areas are not soft at all so I dont think its any type of rot although I myself have not actually seen them in person only through a picture.— Does anyone have any idea of what this could be?- I know a pic would help but as of now I dont have one to post.– She said they still eat just fine and are normal acting. She keeps the water at about 60 degrees ( which I told her I thought may be too cool..??..) Any ideas??- Thanks — Heather

Not sure about the spots, but you are right about the water temperature. Most folks keep their hatchlings in 78 to 80 degree water. I’m assuming that she has an adequate basking station with proper heat and lighting??

Hi Jimbo, Yea the last time I saw the turts she had a good basking area with proper lighting and I dont think until I told her that she realized about the water temp! — She said she was going to get a heater today!- that was the only thing I could think of to tell her that might have had anything to do with the shell color..?? I know thats a long shot but… who knows?– thanks Heather — Jimbo Craig http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
