Happy New Year To All of You ! After long months of searching for hematology and chemistry values for the Diamondback Terrapin I was finally very lucky to find them! There is quite a difference between the range of these values and the ones available for other types of turtles. My old male diamondback is already completely recovered from his close brush with death and as I studied these (M. terrapin) values found out that his were in accordance to the reference values for terrapins and his value problems were mainly due to an injury at the site of his injections, no kidney or liver problems! The values that I previously posted here are within the range for Malaclemys terrapin values. I believe that these reference values could be very valuable to have handy in case of emergencies in which blood work is required. Unfortunately because of copyright issues I can not just post them in here but I could tell you some places to get them. These reference values just came in last year (March 2007) they appeared in the: Herpetological Review Volume 38 (1) – March 2007 – pages; 17-22 Article – Reference Hematology and Serum Chemistry Values for The Diamondback Terrapin by Ralph E. Werner (5 Mar 2007). You could get them for around $5.00 plus S&H at : AbeBooks http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=993564535&searchurl=kn%3D2007%2BWerner%26vcat%3D6488749%26vcatn%3DHerpetological%2BReview%26vci%3D52495356 Or At ebay auctions. I currently saw 8 of these magazines going for less of $1.00: LOT OF 8 HERPETOLOGICAL REVIEW MAGAZINE http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-8-HERPETOLOGICAL-REVIEW-MAGAZINE_W0QQitemZ290195316759QQihZ019QQcategoryZ280QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I’m sure that they might be available at some other places as well but these are a good start. Hopefully this information will help some terrapins in the future. Good Luck with your Diamondbacks Terrapins And Have a Great 2008! Ada 🙂
