Hello again everyone, thanks for the answers to the last inquiry. We are setting up a new, bigger tank for our two Northern DBT’s and I have some questions about the best way to do this. Here’s what we have so far: We got a 65 gallon turtle tank from glasscages.com with a ramp and a step-down platform (for sand). We got a Fluval 405 canister filter (up to 100 gal tank, 340 GpH) with Carbon Filter media, a 500 watt Titanium heater with Controller, and the Python “No Spill Clean N’ Fill” system. We also picked up the Quick Dip Test Strips from http://www.drsfostersmith.com (6-in-1 and Ammonia). We are going to transfer their basking/heating lamp from their first setup. Is there anything else that I am forgetting here for the initial setup? I want to have it all ready by this Sun when we go pick up the tank. Also, some general questions: What is the best way to fill their tank? I live in West Los Angeles and am concerned about using tap water… Is there some kind of additive to add to the tap water to make it turtle-safe? Or are we doomed to buying 60 gallons of bottled water? Also, what do most of you feed your terrapins? We have been feeding them the Reptomin tablets since we’ve had them but they don’t seem to be as interested in them anymore… What other things can I add to their diet that will help round out their nutrients? (I heard from some people that the Reptomin is heavy on protein…) Please respond with any thoughts or suggestions about how we can make this an easy transition for Mika and Maya. Thanks again, Andy & Sonia

Reptomin is junk in my opinion, best to go with Mazuri, Zoo Med or Aquamax. -Stephen C — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “andydavis857”
