Hi group, My family and I found a baby diamondback terrapin on the beach in New Jersey ___ in a populated area near Margate City (Atlantic City area). It is gorgeous and very small ___ shell is about 1 inch. We have been discussing getting a turtle as a pet, and then found this beauty. As a family sensitive to ecologically and wildlife, we are conflicted about taking this specimen from nature and making it a pet. We have not made a final decision about what to do. Advice from the group may help us make this choice. 1. Do you keep them as pets? 2. Are they bred and can they be purchased as turtles bred in captivity? 3. Are they hard to care for? 4. Do you make brackish water for them, or how do you deal with this part of their care? 5. Do they live OK alone or do they do better with a few other diamondbacks? 6. Can you work up to the 60 gallon tank size and start with a littler (20 Gallon) tank and work up? 7. Do you feed it mollusks or are turtle pellets OK? 8. Are diamondbacks a difficult type of reptile to care for as a first pet? Thanks, Jesse, Amy, Sophie and Leo
