The mazuri is too big, and mine don___t seem to eat it after its soaked up water & sinks___Your best bet is to ask Jonathan what his hatchlings have been eating and continue that. I feed out of the tank in a plastic container easier to keep the tank maintained. But it sounds like you know that. I find that they do bottom forge, I think at least in my tanks it’s due to the crushed coral they eat, gaining the calcium it supplies. I’ve kept turtles or tortoises of one kind or another for most of the past forty years, but haven’t had an aquatic turtle for at least 15 years. Currently I breed Cherryhead Redfoot tortoises. I’m originally from Virginia and I remember seeing Diamondbacks in their natural environment in Virginia Beach , and also in Northeast North Carolina ‘s outer banks. Mostly I’d see them basking, in particular a couple of times when I was crabbing with some friends. I’ve always admired them though never kept one, and decided to take the plunge after seeing Johnathan’s website. A couple of quick questions. Are Diamondback surface feeders and just as likely to eat something like floating pellets, or are they more likely to bottom feed, and what can be feed to them that would sink to the bottom? When mine is on the bottom he appears to be engaging in foraging behavior. Am I likely to have any success taking this hatchling out of his tank and putting him in something like a rubbermaid container or a five gallon just to feed?
