Regarding the letter I sent to the Balt Sun: I was warned they might edit my letter for space and unfortunately they removed the most important points so I have an FYI tip to share: First, I encourage everyone to write in to your papers to keep these animals in the news and on people’s minds. It’s a means of cultivating public interest & support so it should not be underrated.My tip: Find out if the editor will show you their final markup before printing. Some papers do this as a matter of course but particularly for those that will not, pare down your submissions as much as possible so they cannot do it for you. Obvious but I hope it helps Also, send a “Thank You” email for articles covering terrapin/conservation etc. issues. It’s a means of showing the paper that its readership cares about these topics – make sure to copy the Public Editor.
