Just a reminder there are only 3 more performances of my play “The Turtle Tattoo” about saving diamondback terrapins in Jamaica Bay. “Save the turtles, save the world, save yourself.” Hope to see you there, Jonathan Wallace THIS SUMMER, SEE A PLAY ABOUT SAVING TURTLES Jonathan Wallace, a volunteer for two years in a project to save diamondback terrapins at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Preserve, is proud to announce the inclusion of his play The Turtle Tattoo in the seventh annual Midtown International Theatre Festival, one of New York City’s leading summer theatre events. The play tells the story of Spike, a burnt out emergency medical technician looking for peace and redemption. Spike discovers that the most enjoyable and calming experience of his week is the time he spends Tuesday mornings helping Jillian, a graduate student in marine biology, protect terrapin nests at Jamaica Bay. As they work together photographing and tagging turtles and putting screens over nests, Spike finds he has fallen in love with the highly competent and sarcastic young scientist–but his lack of sleep and painful memories of his ambulance job on the streets of the Bronx raise a thicket of obstacles. In the mythologies of a multitude of countries, turtles represent order, stability, wisdom, longevity and self-discipline. “The Turtle Tattoo”, replete with real details of the life cycle of the terrapins, also presents them as a metaphor for fundamental issues of life and death which play out on the beach at Jamaica Bay. A $3 discount is available by entering code “OOTTA” in Smarttix (see details below).
