Hello everyone, I’m Phaedra and I was just gifted with a baby diamondback terrapin. Since I have ~no~ idea what to do with the little one, I come looking for advice. I was going to buy a 10 gallon aquarium and put him in there, but I don’t know if that’s overkill or not. He’s tiny, about the size of 50 cent piece. I have him in the small container that he was given to me in, but I pull him out at least once a day to run around in a large tupperware container that I used to store 20 pound bags of rice in. Is there anything special that should be in the tank for him? My next question is about feeding… I was given little sticks of food (I think it’s Reptomin) and told to give him one a day. Should that be in the tank with him, all it seems to do it break down and foul the water. I’ve been putting it in the tupperware tub with him, but he doesn’t seem to be eating and I’m getting worried. He may be eating, just not while I’m looking at him, he doesn’t seem to like having anyone staring at him. Thank you for all your help! This is the first turtle I’ve owned and I’m totally lost. Hey, welcome to the group. i have 1 dbt and i found him about 2 years ago, he was the size of a quater. i was also given the mini reptomin pellets which he wasnt eating. so someone suggested that i get bloodworms. they are really gross looking, really small and skinny. you just put a couple of them in the water and when he sees them moving around he should go after them. you can get them at pretty much any pet store that sells crickets. if he doesnt eat them you can also try the dried out shrimp and krill, they are nice and small and my turtles favorite. once he starts eating them after a week or so you should start feeding him the pellets again. i hope i helped out and if you have any other questions just ask.
