Thanks to Maryland’s new terrapin “conservation” regulations which went into effect on August 1, 2006, many more smaller wild terrapins are ending up in the market. This is not speculation, already we have witnessed the smaller terrapins being sold for pets. Some of these terrapins may be tagged as part of our research and recovery effort. The Terrapin Institute would be most grateful if you would return any tagged or marked terrapins. Although these tagged terrapins are considered private property we will compensate anyone willing to return them to us. Photographs of our various tagging methods are posted on the front page of our website. Also, please be on the look out for any telltale injuries or holes in the shell from where a tag might have been removed. We would like to recover or at least examine any terrapin purchased from the market. All information is kept strictly confidential. Thank you all for your consideration and assistance.
