Hello everyone: My terrapin has a skin fungus in his scutes and is going to the vet. Do you think vet insurance is a good idea? How many persons have vet insurance for there turtles? Has anyone had a terrapin turtle have fungus in their scutes and what do they recommend? Any answers would be helpful. Thanks Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com
i have 4 terrapins and two of them were developing an abcess around their neck..i went to the vets and he charged _16 for just a consultation fee and then an extra _20 for the treatment. luckily my pet insurance’s policy excess was _35 so i claimed it all back. vet charges are pretty expensive and you would benefit from having insurance. i have pet insurance that specialise in reptiles…exotic direct. http://www.exoticdirect.co.uk/ if you want to check it out. hope your reptile child recovers soon. god bless — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, Rasa Massey
Hmmm, I’ve often pondered this question myself but I’ve found that my vet visits are not sufficient for me to have insurance. Also, I have over 20 terrapins so it would be rather prohibitive cost-wise in my situation. Silvadene cream is usually the medication of choice for shell rot – that and dry docking the terrapin.
