Hello, I am new to your groups just a couple of days ago. My cheloneons are fine, but when we got home today outside in the grass was a sick little box turtle. the neighbor kids told my daughter that a girl who used to live in the lower apartment came and left it here. I am certain she left it for us to find as people know about our turtle/tortoise. Heres what I am asking. I can’t leave it out there. I know it’s sick and needs help. but It’s not one of mine and right now not in a position to run it up to a vet, and we don’t have any here that do these guys anyway. Is there something I can do for it ? I put it right under the UV tube and some heat. It has swollen eyes/lids and bubblies from its nose. can I use tetrcylin for it ? jo~ MarylandSee what’s free at AOL.com.
Stephen ChewJune 15, 2007 at 6:23 pm #24969Hi Jo, I’m not a box turtle expert by any means but we used to do tetracycline soaks with them at the pet store. Would also put vitamin A (from gelcaps) on their eyes. It sounds like it has a respiratory infection and needs to be kept warm (low 80s). In the meantime, please do a web search – there should be plenty of websites dedicated to them online. Good luck. -Stephen C

Stephen ChewJune 16, 2007 at 10:20 am #24971Jo, we used to get tetracycline used for fish medication and dissolve it in a bucket of shallow water, then use it as a soak. -Stephen C
