Old scutes that never came off… lack of basking

Hello again everyone, I’ve been enjoying all of your recent dialogue and its great that half the time when I have a question, someone has already just asked it and saves me the trouble. Your knowledge has proved to be priceless to me and my female who is growing big and healthy (now almost 4″ in less then a year! I’ll post pictures soon). My question today is related to basking questions I had for Jonathan at various times about her not wanting to bask anyone. As a hatchling she always did and then, once my other hatchling that has since died would do nothing but bask, she stopped. I had plenty of room for both of them, the water temp stays at a consistent 79 degrees, and I know she feels safe because she shows no fear of me or my wife. I am upgrading to a 75 gallon tank soon to accommodate her growth and a new male I’m getting soon. I was told the basking issue happens from time to time but she has some scutes that are still left on her from her earlier shedding. I was able to help her with a few of the loose ones over time but I don’t want have to dig any off and risk hurting her. I don’t see any evidence of fungus or anything else because I keep the water incredibly clean but I don’t want to risk anything in the future. I know she won’t shed as frequently now that she’s reached this size so that’s why I want to take care of it now. I’ve seen pictures of wild terrapins with the stacked scute appearance on the carapace but I know this isn’t normal. I’ve tried giving her some dry time in place of her own basking and now that I just moved to a new location I can take her outside for some natural sunshine too which may help. What should I do?
