Terrapin Poaching Alert

Based on two reliable sources we have reason to believe there may be poaching of terrapins from Maryland waters. The DNR police have been notified and officers in the area of the reports are keeping watch. Poachers seem to be targeting small terrapins and turtles which are captured in various types of fishing gear. Conceivably the “three per person” collection allowance is already being abused. One of the terrapin poaching sites has been a point of repatriation for our head-started terrapins. If you see or hear about any terrapin offered for sale, trade, or free please notify the DNR police immediately at 410 260 8888.
