Help! Ornate Hatchling Sleeping Too Much.

Hello All, I have a question regarding ornate babies. 2 days ago, I bought 3 beautiful yellow ornates, and they are about 1 inch. What I’m worried about is that these guys sleep too much and tooo deeply. And no interest in eating yet. I understand this part since they need some time to adjust in new tank and so.) Most of time, they sleep on the rock, basking area. But sometimes they sleep on the water. For example, they swim for sometime, and quickly fall asleep in a couple seconds on the water, and drift around, just like they are dead. (When they sleep, they sleep so deeply, look like dead body.) Is this typical behavior of ornate babies, or are they not good in health? I had few northerns in this size before and now, but they were/are much more active. I am really worried about their behavior. One more thing, what is the best food to offer to hatchlings in their size (1 inch)? Thanks very much. Danny
You may want to lower the water level until they get stronger. What is your setup like?dasom97
The tank is about 10inch by 15 inch and water level is about 3 inches. Water temp is set to 82-83 F. There is a basking rock in the middle. I also have UVB and Spotlamp. I will lower the water temperature when I go home tonight. How low should I go? (If it is too low, I won’t be able to put the heater and filter.) Thanks for reply. Do you have a dark side of the tank. I just noticed your rock was in the middle. They are so timid at first, it’s nice to give them hiding places. So a dark side of the tank is nice especially after shipping. If their feet can touch the bottom you should be fine. Though strong swimmers best to be safe. Hatchlings I usually do 82. They just may need some time. Do find out what they were eating before you got them. Try to replicate the food they had before. I do mazuri pellets.
