Group, Responding to a recent inquiry about basking platforms: I recently relocated and set up temporary quarters for my Texans in two small wading pools from PetSmart. For basking I constructed a platform (2X2) divided in the middle to accomodate (and segregate) occupants from the two pools. Ramps extend into the water and ride on a door hinge—since the ramps are wood, they ride high, but will drop deeper when the critter decides to crawl up. Sides and divider made very inexpensively from 6′ fence panels cut to length. Bottoms are chipboard. This design would work well as a laying area, on the order of J. Helms’ tubs. Just need to place the sides over some container about 8″ deep. View them under Dick’s Terrapins http://pets.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/diamondbackterrapins/photos/browse/ae67

If you want to keep them segregated and also use only one basking lamp. I am forever working on ideas like this. Will all the animals we have and the need for rehab room as well as room for permanent residents I have to really be careful. Those Mercury vapor lamps eat up the electricity when you have a bunch running at once. Steve
