Ben, I don’t know that there is an ideal ambient temperature for diamondbacks. If there is, the range would be quite wide. I would assume that temperatures between 65F-85F would be comfortable for them. In the wild, dbs remain active until the mid Fall season and southern ones are active throughout the year. Maybe MW could enlighten us on this a little bit more. Most of my dbs love to bask and spend half the day out of the water also. I believe this is a natural response for dbs and not necessarily an aversion to water conditions. Again, I doubt that he is intimidated by the other turtles – usually it’s the other way around! Isn’t that just one of the most endearing traits to dbs – their curiosity?! – Chun
