As with so many things I cannot vote eiter way. I have studied populations of macrospilota and find them in 25-30ppt sodium chloride NaCl. My captives are in, what I would call, very hard fresh water. African cichlids thrive in myy tanks. NaCl seems to help keep pathogens depressed with dbt as it does with fresh water fish. Alkaline water also keeps several types of fungus at bay. A 30ppt salt bath helps as well. My tanks have an added Na, Mg, Ca, Cl, SO4, and CO3 salts. Nothing is ever simple in biological water chemistry and this is just extremely basic to get by with happy and healthy DBT for my group. Scott — In diamondbackterrapins@egroups.com, “Vickie Hays”
