Hello everyone, I was checking up on my turtle earlier today when I noticed that she was foaming at the corners of her mouth while she was basking. This is the first time I’ve seen this happen, but I usually leave her alone when the basking light is on. I searched the web to see if I could find some information, but I found nothing conclusive. Most posts seemed to point to a RI. When I checked on her again, the foaming was gone but I did notice some white crystals on the top of her eyelids (only when basking). This all happened in a span of about 2-3 hours (from when she first when on dock to when I checked on her the second time). She only basks a few hours (2-4) before getting back into the water even though the basking light is on for 7 hours. I MAY have heard a single sneeze or cough earlier in the day, but I haven’t heard anything since. I’m usually around her and I haven’t witnessed anything like that before. As far as my parameters are concerned.. water temp: 78-79 ambient air temp: 70 (give or take a degree) She has a 100W Megaray bulb for her basking light with a basking temp north of 95 degrees. I’ve experimented for the past few weeks with the temp but I found that she wont stay on the dock if it’s less than 95. She regularly eats 35 omega one cichlid pellets (medium size), 5 omega one shrimp pellets, 15 reptomin mini sticks, and freeze dried krill/shrimp/bloodworm every now and again. I hand feed her all that in 15 min and under. She eats a lot and fast! She does seem to yawn regularly (maybe 3-4 times during the day) but other than that she is fairly active swimming up and down, left and right, and chasing her red tail shark companion when it passes in front of her. I will be raising her water temp to about 82-83 degrees when her light turns off. I won’t be raising the basking temp as I’m afraid it may get too hot. Any and all advice from people who have considerably more experience than me is greatly appreciated. -Miguel
