Company reps from Mazuri (Purina) staffed a table at this past weekend’s reptile show held in Arlington, Texas. Their head of sales reported that they received approval from their plant foreman just this past Friday to market the “new” aquatic turtle diet (pellets) in “consumer-sized” bulk bags weighing 25 lbs. As these become available on dealer price lists, dealers should be able to order them in any quantity rather than the two ton minimum currently required for ordering the 50 lb. sacks. No word on typical prices for the new size, however. Undoubtably it won’t be as cheap as the price per pound for the 50s since it is aimed at the retail market, but it will still hopefully be fairly economical. The company “show special” on the half pound canisters was at $3.50 a can. The head of zoo sales (and apparently a Ph. D. nutritionist) did not recommend the carnivorous gel powder to me over the “new” aquatic turtle diet pellets if the turtle will eat pellets. He said they are both meant to be “sole” diets and the pellets should be sufficient and more handy. Todd in Texas
