My diamondbacks are suffering from a skin infection. It is going from one turtle to the next. I have posted two pics on the group page. Can anyone give me advice on how to stop this infection? My DBt are in a 77 gallon filled to the top with a land area on the top. The water is kept at varied salinities. I installed a UVB steriliser last month ( two have gotten the infection since then) and have just set up a UVB light. The have a 100 watt spot on top of the land area. I feed them 2-3 times a week outside of the tank. They get frozen fish, feeder fish, trout chow, pinkies, although I did offer a farmed raised cray fish a few months ago, but they where getting this infection before this. My mature female has had it at least 3 times in the past 2 years. The infection responds well to baytril. I will appreaciate any help. Thanks Julie
diamondback_terrapinAugust 26, 2002 at 9:12 pm #17642Julie, Have you tried increasing the salinity during this time? It can be the added stimulus that they need to overcome it once and for all. You might double-check and see if the infections correspond to lower salinity at all. Some wild-caughts just do not do well outside of brackish environments. Some on the other hand thrive in fresh and I have yet to draw a conclusion as to what exactly determines their adaptibility. All the best. -Chun — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, Julie Tougas
cuora22August 26, 2002 at 9:35 pm #17643I have always had a bit of marine salt ( abotu 5-10 ppm) but I have never really increased it more than that. I will buy a bag of salt tomorrow and pump up the salinity. Thanks Julie — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, “diamondback_terrapin”
