Silicone is made out of the same stuff as glass (silicon dioxide) and chemically bonds with it. That’s why the bond is not so good with plastic. ADestroyah@… wrote: glass I bought. Is there a special type of calking to use? I read at a DIY site, that Silicone is the stuff to use, but I want to double check.<< Eric, I had a plexi glass slab as a basking site for my DBTs up until recently. Long before I even had any turtles in my tank, I had silliconed the slab to the sides of the tank. But a few weeks before I got my three, the sillicone gave out. Sillicone doesn't seem to work very well on plexiglass for whatever reason. Also, Plexiglass can be very slippery. My DBTs used to have an uphill battle to climb up onto it, and sometimes when I would enter the room, they would have a hard time rushing back into the water. It sure does make for quite the spectacle though. They look like little motors running in place with all their might, but not getting anywhere. I have since switched to wood, and they have less problems.
