Jonathan: Since I didn’t know jack squat about dbts when I bought my turtle, I guess I have to say she must have been in decent condition–though I doubt that would have lasted long. She was in a cardboard box with a bunch of others. She was by far the most alert and the poor things were all stacked atop each other. There is a photo of her in the links. She is missing part of her front leg–a raccoon got into her enclosure in the first month we had her and took it off. We’ve since built a much more secure enclosure–I now am not terribly fond of raccoons. I already forgot, but I think she cost about $11 and some change. She was definitely less than $15. I am Asian (and don’t speak Chinese)and my husband is Caucasian, so we were really scared that when we brought the turtle to the checkout of the grocery and told the non-English speaking man that we wanted that turtle boxed up, that he would take her into the back and chop her up! Phew! We were relieved when he just went to the back and got her a cardboard box instead. I am hoping to find a boyfriend for my dbt if the market has another live one, though I am so worried about giving them the impression that there is a market for them. I don’t want to encourage them to stock up on them. I think Todd also mentioned that the males may be too small for consumption (since they apparently are time consuming to prepare), so I might not be able to find her a significant other at the Chinese market.
