Mike, Years ago I put gold fishs into the water as food for my terrapins. Most of the fish lived for a long time before I gave them to my other turtles. I don’t keep them in with the turtle any more. You can try some large gold fish and see if your dbts are faster than mine. As subspecies are concerned I have not noticed much differences in temperment, hardiness, personality, or any thing else. I have heard that ornate seem to be a little less ceseptalbe to shell problems but I don’t know if that is ture. Each turtle has their own personality. I like all of the subspecies.
