1) I was wondering if anyone has tried keeping fish in an aquarium with your dbt’s. I remember reading how dbt’s could be messy eaters, so maybe fish could clean up quite nicely. Will the dbt’s be able to catch and eat most any fish put in a tank with them? If there are rocks for the fish to hide in, that might do the trick. 2) From pictures alone, I seem to prefer the concentric carolinian subspecies of dbt. I would appreciate a heads-up if anyone sees hatchlings of this variety for sale. 3) I’m interested to hear what subspecies others’ prefer and why. Are there major differences in temperment, hardiness, personality, etc.?

Mike, Years ago I put gold fishs into the water as food for my terrapins. Most of the fish lived for a long time before I gave them to my other turtles. I don’t keep them in with the turtle any more. You can try some large gold fish and see if your dbts are faster than mine. As subspecies are concerned I have not noticed much differences in temperment, hardiness, personality, or any thing else. I have heard that ornate seem to be a little less ceseptalbe to shell problems but I don’t know if that is ture. Each turtle has their own personality. I like all of the subspecies. I am a fan of any subspecies with white skin and large black spots. Jonathan http://www.geocities.com/diamondbackterrapins eaters, to

I kept goldfish in a tank with (the only) wild caught adult female I have and she eagerly devoured them all in minutes – what a mess! Another keeper told me that his dbts ate lots of live minnows. I’ve thrown goldfish in my tanks (occasionally) of captive born young dbts that have been raised on pellets, and the goldfish all disappear over a few days. -Rick mikecyterski@… wrote:
