Whatever you keep with diamondbacks must be of the right size – not too small to be eaten and not to big or aggressive to nip on your terps. I’ve had 6″ koi get munched up by mine… I rarely ever do a complete water change on my tank/pond. In fact, a complete water change should be avoided except in contamination situations. There is beneficial bacteria in the filter media and water that breakdown toxic ammonia and nitrite from the turtle waste and uneaten food. These bacteria should be preserved. Consequently, I do 25% water changes on a weekly or bi-monthly basis using 1″ plastic tubing to syphon out the water. To fill up, I either use the old “invert bucket of water over tank” method or water straight from the hose. Chun Tail Mod
