Jonathan, Here’s my two cents to the debate. I don’t add much salt…..about 4 or 5 ounces of Morton salt (not iodized) to about 60 gallons. I suspect this is enough to keep shell rot problems from arising. I vary this because the salinity in the natural environment varies; ie., I may do a partial water change without adding any salt then in the next water change add salt. Also, I feed my dbt’s in a separate tub that has no salt – there the dbts can enjoy a drink of fresh water daily. I start hatchlings out in only fresh water and add salt when they are older. Bob
