Jonathan, I have had the same problems that you mention with your 304, with my 404. The thing is impossible to start, and what’s worse is, the little pump handle that’s on the 404 is pretty flimsy. While trying to start the thing, I have snapped two of them in half! They just become super hot from all the friction, and snap. My 404 now sits in the basement, I just can’t get the thing started again. Does anyone have any tips to getting these things running? I too thought they worked pretty impressively, but they’re impossible to start! I don’t think the 404 is any newer than the 304 either.
