Hey! Wow-terrific to see so many people keeping dbt’s. I had given up trying to keep them because the wild caughts (the only ones available up to a few years ago) would just wither and die for me. But I’ve been keeping them for about 8 years now, all from captive born babies, and I’m in love!!! I have a bunch of northerns, a few ornates, and a few texas. Several years ago I received 2 wildcaught texas males with solid blue (real blue, not gray-blue) heads. One was 2 inches and the other was 4 inches. Neither survived for me (altho the smaller one lived for over a year and a half). The one person I know hatching Texas dbt’s has several blue-head males in his breeding group. I’ve only kept 2 so far (a pair) and neither has developed the blue head – yet anyway. The possibilities in breeding color and pattern in dbt’s, along with their terrific personality, and that they don’t get too large (like a slider/cooter, anyway), makes for a terrific turtle and turtle future for captive dbt’s. Anyway, that was BLUE! -Rick Van Dyke Todd Stockwell wrote:
