Hi All, I know you dont know me very well here but I have been a listener to the lights discussion on various groups including the Tortoise Trust, Pogona and Turlte Homes Lists. I, personally, use Reptisun 5.0’s on my Dragons and Spotted Turtles among other things. I use the UVHEat on my Iguana and on my Hermanns Tortoises simply because their enclosures are big enough to safely dissipate the heat (Iguana lives in a room and the Hermanns have a floor to ceiling enclosure that is about 4 feet by 7 feet or thereabouts. I would NOT use the UVHeat in a tank of any sort. They get WAY hot. I had one temporarily in a “cage” 4 feet by 3 feet with 3 sides open and it got to about 120 in there. I DO like them for the iguana and the torts. The iguana has shed more and is a better eater under it in my opinion. Could be my imagination tho. ๐ As for the GE Chroma Lights I think that most of the people having good luck with them are also people living in areas where their animals get out in the real sun a lot. I live in Connecticut and we get literally 2 months of what I would call good sunning weather for my dragons and iguana. Being new to the turtle thing I suppose I could get a DBT out starting in May and out until Sept or thereabouts which would give me 5 months. We have skunks and raccoons so everyone that goes out by day has to come in by night. I’ll stick with the Reptisuns because I dont think any of my guys get out in the real sun ENOUGH to make up for the lack of UVB production in the Chromas. Another thing to think about is that if I change my Reptisun once a year because the UVB production goes from say 5% to .5% how often do you change a Chroma that only gives off like .7% to start with? Every other week? ๐ Carole Jonathan Helms wrote: — Visit My Homepage at http://www.reptilecare.com LIVE VIDEO IGUANACAM: http://www.reptilecare.com/livecam.htm — AOL Instant Messenger: Reptileszz — Photo Album: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13324 — Superbee page http://www.69superbee.com
